Meet Senior Physiotherapist – Benjamin Butler-Bonnice

Benjamin Butler-Bonnice

Senior Physiotherapist

Ben is a qualified physiotherapist who completed a Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe University, graduating in 2016. Since then, Ben has primarily worked in private practice and during this time also gained experience working with NICA (National institute in circus arts), providing physiotherapy treatment, rehabilitation and strength and conditioning plans to circus athletes.

Ben’s interest in strength and conditioning stems from a 15yr career as a personal trainer before becoming a physiotherapist. This experience has allowed Ben to provide thorough and comprehensive rehabilitation plans for common sporting, recreational and musculoskeletal injuries.

Ben has extensive experience in treating people with osteoarthritis, knee pain and knee injuries, as well as neck and back pain and has a passion for treating Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes. Ben believes in an active approach to physiotherapy treatment while incorporating massage, dry needling and mobilisation techniques to decrease pain and improve function.

When Ben isn’t in the clinic he is spending time with his family and children or coaching at his Jiu-Jitsu club, Jean Jacques Machado BJJ Melbourne which he owns and operates. Ben is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and this experience combined with his physiotherapy background has enabled him to treat complex conditions that many BJJ athletes encounter.

Ben enjoys treating people from all walks of life, from young athletes to seniors, BJJ athletes and folks with common musculoskeletal ailments.
